www.solardave.com This is my second interview with Tony Boniface President of Independent Power Systems filmed in Superior Colorado. SolarDave: What manufacturer do you like to use for solar panel inverters and why? Tony Boniface: With SunPower we utilize what they recommend with their panels. They have the manufacturers to work with them to provide proper matching. My favorite is SMA America Inc. they have been in the industry the longest - German company - German has a head start on the rest of the world. At this point they think they are the largest supplier of inverters in the world. The are constantly doing R&D developing their inverters. SMA best track record, best reliability and SunPower uses them as well. SolarDave: Does SMA modify the inverters for SunPower? Tony Boniface: SunPower is unique in they have to be positively grounded. SMA has provided that positively grounding for SunPower panels - so that is somewhat unique. SolarDave: Have you ever had to send any inverters back as a warranty issue? Tony Boniface:We have but mostly for the Xantec's which SunPower also uses, they had some issues but they got recalled quickly and we addressed those, SMA's have had very little returns but with an electronic device you are bound to level of fall out. SMA has had the least amount of fallout.
