My Xantrex Prosine 1800 Watt inverter is mounted in the garage. I used the remote mounting kit to put the display panel near the door leading into the house. During last Summer, and now starting again this one, the display goes bonkers periodically on hot days. The inverter still works as expected despite the display. Cycling the power switch fixes the display. Short of mounting the display indoors where it's cooler, don't know of another solution that doesn't consume power (like mounting a fan near the display).

I have a old backup unit were the battery has died so I removed the old battery and attached some jumper cables to the corresponding negative and positive wire inside the unit and have attached a car battery to the unit, then you can reuse the old backup unit as an inverter very easy.

This isn't foldable, but it is rollable and flexible. Weighing 9 pounds,. this 68 watt solar panel will be great for camping with a laptop and cameras. Attached in the video is a 18v power drill - which seemed like it could actually do some work drilling! I think the voltage being too high is setting off the fault for this inverter. Maybe a step down dc converter to make the voltage 12v, or just replace the inverter? This was 195$ from Affordable Solar Like this? Also check out Xunlight solar panels.

My goal is to buy some solar panels. I am also going to make my own home made generator as soon as I get some old treadmills. They have DC motors in them that can be turned into generators. I have a new obsession with taking this awful and very hot sun, and stealing the power from it. It's just very expensive to get into. This year I will purchase some solar panels and every year I will get a little bit more. A couple panels here and there and soon I should be able to run things without paying the electric company. The little battery, I have a cord running from it. I took a 3 dollar extender thing from walmart and cut the end that plugs into your car off, and wired it to the battery. I can run stuff like my air compressor easily, without being outside next to the cars.

This is a test run of a Solectria UMOC440F inverter (motor controller) and a Solectria AC55 Motor. This equipment was originally built to power light trucks and vans in the late 1990's and early 2000's. You can see that there is a driveshaft yoke attached directly to the motor shaft. Solectria was later bought by Azure dynamics, and they do still support this equipment. The purpose of this test was to prove that the inverter and motor are indeed working and that I have figured out the proper interface to control them. I will be using these parts in my next electric car conversion which will be a 2004-2007 Scion Xb. The UMOC440F inverter is good for about 70KW, which is equivalent to about 95 horsepower. The motor which is matched to the inverter is also rated for about 70kw, and can output 175 foot pounds of torque from 0-3000 rpm, with a maximum speed of 8000 rpm. Peak efficiency of the motor is about 93% and it is around 90% across much of the power/rpm band. Inverter efficiency is about 98%. Power supply for the test was simple 120V, 20A, 60Hz household current that was isolated, stepped up, and rectified to get about 230VDC at about 5A, which was enough to (very carefully!) spin up the motor under no load. Voltage ripple was not a major concern as there are huge capacitors on the input stage of the inverter. The inverter was hooked to a homemade test box that supplies throttle position, Fwd/Reverse, Regen on/off and other controls necessary to operate the motor and ...

The motor which is matched to the inverter is also rated for about 70kw, and can output 175 foot pounds of torque from 0-3000 rpm, with a maximum speed of 8000 rpm. Peak efficiency of the motor is about 93% and it is around 90% across much of the power/rpm band. Inverter efficiency is about 98%. Power supply for the test was simple 120V, 20A, 60Hz household current that was isolated, stepped up, and rectified to get about 230VDC at about 5A, which was enough to (very carefully!) spin up the motor under no load. Well I pulled the trigger on the Champion 73531i CPE2000i inverter generator today, twice LOL. I found them on sale for under 0 a piece at Sams Club, and the Sams Club warranty on them is unbeatable (Sam's Club Member Satisfaction Guarantee). I figured if they did not perform as needed, returning them would be a non-issue. In the video below I put a 1500watt continuous load on them with a portable space heater. At around 25ft with both units running at idle the sound was less than the sound of a lawn mower running, with one unit at 1500 watts it was still quieter. By how much, I cannot be sure as I have not mowed a lawn in years. I can tell you that with both running from inside my house I could not hear them on the other side of the wall outside. I am fairly impressed so far, I will try to get them hooked up to my pup shortly and try out the 13500btu Coleman Mach AC unit. These are labeled at 53db at 23ft, 2000watt starting, 1600watt continuous. Paralleled they are good for 3000watt continuous. From what I have gathered they lose the 200watts due to the wiring of the parallel kit being small (16ga). I really believe that these are going to be great for us. A side note, I took these to the gas station to fill them up in the back of my 4Runner. On the trip home there was not even the slightest hint of gasoline vapors. They have a secondary vent on the gas cap that keeps them from emitting fumes. They are also super light, no problem loading them even with fuel into my ...

This clever little device went bang shortly after I bought it. The manufacturer was really helpful and sent me a bag of parts so that I could fix it myself. One of the MOSFETs had gone short circuit and blown the little 5 amp fuse, but also taken out one winding of the choke. I replaced all the bits and also added another fuse. This 1.6 amp fuse is fine for 300W at 240 volts and should protect the choke if another semiconductor should fail. I also put little stick on rubber feet between each diode/mosfet and the metal battens that hold them against the heatsink. This results in much more even pressure on each device and allows them to sit completely flat against the heatsink.

This is my solar power setup for my Shed. It is the Harbor freight solar power kit with charge converter. I bought the Chigaco electric 2000/4000 watt inverter also at harbor freight. Its hooked up to 2 Interstate SRM 27B 12 volt deep cycle batteries. I used 2 guage cables I got at autozone and spliced some of them with new terminals. It typically powers 4 45watt light bulbs, but it can power much more. Powers my porter cable 150PSI compressor and all my power tools. Does the trick for what I need. I know the panels are not in the best place possible, but they get many hours of sunlight during the best day light hours.
