I built this battery box for about 0 because, at the time, I could not find a cheap generator. This Coleman CM04101 generator was about 9 with free shipping on eBay, bought about 8 months after building the battery box. Together, they insure a good, constant flow of electricity when camping. The generator weighs in at 900 watts constant, 1000 watts peak and runs for 8 solid hours on 1 gallon of gas, if all it's doing it charging the battery box.

A quick update on the connection of the DuPont solar panels, there are now 1KW of solar panels connected the other kilowatt will be wired this weekend. The new 24v battery bank is being charged by the FlexMax 80 charge controller and there are grid tie inverters which soon will be automatically turned on by diverting the dump load circuits of the wind turbine charge controllers to the grid tie inverters. Soon the battery remote temp sensor and monitoring kits will be added to the MagnaSine inverter and AC power brought in to complete this project.

Review of the xantrex xpower powerpack solar. The power pack solar is a mobile power pack that houses both ac and dc power outlets and features a 5 watt solar panel for green recharging. The unit is very well made and is slim enough to fit away in a corner or closet when not in use. The powerpack solar packs many high end features like, a 400 watt power inverter, 12 volt dc out, usb out and very bright led lights. At the heart of the powerpack solar is the 10 amp hour 12 volt sealed lead acid battery, which is good enough to provide a few hours of power to laptops, tv's and other ac appliances. The battery can go longer when paired with low powered ac devices, like alarm systems and wireless routers. The 10 amp hour battery really shines when it comes to dc appliances. I was able to run a small 10 watt (0.8 amp) dc fan for well over 11 hours and still had usable power left in the powerpack. This means in an emergency, you would most likely want to use the dc ports and the built in led lights for many hours of use. I have used and played around with my powerpack solar for well over a month before I posted the review and have had noting less than an wonderful experience. The powerpack solar has served me well and was almost used in a power outage (too bad the outage lasted only 30 seconds). From my experience with other xantrex products and other mobile powerpacks in the past, I expect this unit to give me years of service before needing a replacement battery (5 years on ...

What is the difference between sine wave and modified sine wave? A: Alternating current (AC) has a continuously varying voltage that swings from positive to negative. This has great advantages in power transmission over long distances. Power from your power company is carefully regulated to be a perfect sine wave, because that is what naturally comes out of a generator, and also because sine waves radiate the least amount of radio power during long distance transmission. On the other hand, a sine wave is expensive to make in an inverter, and many sine wave techniques use heavy, inefficient transformers. The most inexpensive way to make AC is to switch the DC on and off--a square wave. A modified sine wave is scientifically designed to simulate a sine wave in the most important respects so that it will work for most appliances. It consists of a flat plateau of postive voltage, dropping abruptly to zero for a while, then dropping again to a flat plateau of negative voltage, back to zero for a while, then returning to the positive voltage. These are the full complement of Power Jack inverters for the system I've been installing this past year. Taking good advice from all the great comments on my other previous videos (thanks guys!). Now I have four 80watt solar panels driving each 600W inverter (2S2P) 320 watts max, this is putting less stress on each inverter at times of inbalance. My peak power reading was over 2kW and on a good day the total power produced is averaging around 10kWh. My original setup had a timeswitch to save power at night, and now the inverters mains supply is switched on through a relay when the panels have enough daylight to start generating, they are then shut down again at dusk. After blowing two inverters while carrying out tests to the on/off set-points; this is now working fine, the inverters start and stop under stable supply conditions. I will soon add mains conditioning to each inverter as there is still a risk of power cuts blowing out the power FET's, as other Power Jack users can testify.

I have just installed a 2500 watt power jack grid tie inverter to run my solar array directly into the home power grid and reduce the electrical bill. The Missouri Wind and Solar 9 blade wind turbine is still running into the Missour Wind and Solar charge controller. During an emergency power outage, the solar power can be re-directed from the grid tie inverter to the battery bank through the charge controller. The battery power is consumed during emergencies through a 5000 watt battery inverter. First we check how it would sound with the subwoofer in the trunk. The material needed for this install are: power invertor, power wire ( i used 8 gauge), his a fuse holder and fuse ( i used a AGU fuse 60 AMP) , a relay SPDT, 12" of speaker wire 14 gauge, remote wire 16 gauge, terminal connectors, soldering iron, solder, & heat shrink tubing. I can be mounted anywhere but our location is the trunk.

This is a short video showing the power output of my Sharp solar panels and the power production monitoring using the Enphase grid tie inverters. I have had this system online since August of 2009 but just a week ago decided to add the monitoring unit. Work well and they have a 15 year warranty, much better than money I spent before that on the Chinese inverters from YouTube. Nothing like buying a quality product and better if American made. God bless you all.

this video shows my recent upgrade from 15 watts to 75 watts i am really happy with the new performance.The inverter i used in this video was running at its maximum rating with seemingly no problems.Though when I run it for more than 30 minutes at this rate the cables and connections get rather warm. I am no expert but hope some of the information here helps someone with less experience than I. Keeping in mind one of the panels is 15 years old . Tidying up some of those wires will be another project .And have some underground wiring for a more permanent home for my inverters.I think it is a neat idea about the geothermal bottom heat for the battery.every little bit helps. Any suggestions post a comment.

For my thermodynamics project, I set the depicted components up to measure the total efficiency of charging batteries from the grid then discharging them through an inverter- in my case, 110v-24v-12v(wiring change)-110v-load. This is a small-scale model of a system that would serve a household wherein the grid power is only available for a few hours per day, or intermittently. Many areas in Africa are like this. My efficiency was about 60% total. I haven't yet measured individual component efficiencies yet using the DC powermeter, that is the test in progress while I took this video.
