Apollo 12 Launch Onboard Voice Recording (Partial Composite) Video Clips. Duration : 11.80 Mins.

*Click "Show More" for more info* Mostly complete on-board voice audio of the Apollo 12 launch from T-12 seconds to S-IVB shutdown T+11:35. The original recording from T+2:56 to T+3:38 is missing or inaudible, this part has been replaced with the air to ground transmissions where possible. Apollo 12 launched at 11:22 am EST (16:22 GMT) on 14 November 1969, during a rainstorm. At 36.5 seconds into the launch, the Saturn V launch vehicle triggered a lightning strike through the vehicle and its exhaust plume to the ground. The strike caused the spacecraft's three fuel cells to incorrectly detect overloads, causing the fuel cells to automatically disconnect from the power buses. This resulted in the spacecraft being powered entirely by two of the three CM batteries normally used only for re-entry. The battery power was not sufficient for the loads used at launch, resulting in a voltage drop on the main DC buses and momentary loss of power in the AC inverters. The combination of false overloads and power losses caused almost every warning light on the command module control panel to illuminate. The power loss also caused the Signal Conditioning Equipment (SCE) to malfunction, causing a loss of telemetry data from the spacecraft. A second, cloud-to-cloud strike at 52 seconds (unnoticed by the crew at the time) caused a malfunction in the coupling display unit (CDU) component of the inertial subsystem (ISS), which caused the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) to incorrectly detect a ...
